October 2025 Meeting Highlights

Fire Dept:

  • 25 new recruits started Monday, October 6, 2025
  • 10 personnel promotions
  • Completing the renovations to Station 6

Police Dept:

  • No representative was present to share updates.

School Report:

  • Graduation rates were announced for each high school in Sout Fulton
    • Langston Hughes 94%
    • Creekside 92.2%
    • Westlake 91.9%
    • Banneker 84.6%
    • TriCities 86.1%
  • Improvement gains for SAT scores
  • $300,000 grant for Banneker HS
  • School community meeting on October 20th at Cliftondale

Construction and Zoning Development

  • Continued development along Riverside Dr. Apartments are being occupied. Ongoing negotiations for additional retail in area to include a parcel of land for medical space.
  • Zoning update for land off Campbellton Road on Dove Street. Request to rezone from R3 to agriculture. This is a 4-acre lot. Owner wants to expand current garden to implement a farm to table garden for the community. Currently has muscadine grapes fields on property.

District 1 News

  • Councilperson Rowell community meeting is scheduled for October 8th at Sandtown Rec Center 6-8 pm.
  • Southwest Arts Center is undergoing renovations.
  • Enon Road traffic speed reduction in progress. Reduce speed, law enforcement will ticket for speeding.
  • Quik Trip under construction on Cascade Road
  • New traffic signal on Kimberly and Cascade Roads
  • Dunkin Donuts will be housed on Fairburn and Cascade (in front of old LT Wings)
  • Construction is set for first home in subdivision on Wallace Road

Political Campaigns

  • Roger Bruce announced his candidacy for State Senator
